Pink Gradient Canvas

Hello everyone!

I'm super excited to share this tutorial with you all because it's so fun and cute! A couple of weeks ago, we celebrated the birthday of one of the girls that works in my office. She's super fun and quirky, so I voolunteered to make some awesome canvases for her! After some recon work and talking with her daughter, we found out that her favorite color is pink, hence the pink gradient! (It looks kind of red in the pictures.) This is a super easy project and probably took me about an hour and a half to two hours to do 2 of them!

Here are my finished canvases. You can obviously choose any color and saying you want.

What you need:
  •  Canvas (I always get mine at Walmart because it's the best deal. I used 14x18)
  •  Glitter (I also got this at Walmart)
  •  Paint brushes (have varying sizes on hand)
  •  A large sponge brush
  •  Red acryllic paint (Or a color of your choice)
  •  White acryllic paint (You need this to create the gradient look)
  •  Black acryllic paint (Or whatever color you want your words to be)
  •  Mod Podge (I have the matte kind)
  •  A plate for mixing paint colors
  •  Something to cover your table with (I use newspaper)
  •
HEre's a close up of the acryllic paint I used

Step 1. Put a large amount of white paint on your plate. Then place a few small drops of your colored paint in the middle. I would do no more than 2. Mix this up with your sponge brush.

Step 2. After the paint is mixed well, paint a thick line across the top of your canvas. I'd tell you how thick, but I'm terrible with measurements, so just eyeball it. It doesn't have to be perfect because you will be blending with other colors. If you are doing 2 canvases, do all of the gradient painting steps at the same time. So once you're done with the light color on one, go right to the other.

As you can see, I accidentally got paint in the wrong spot.

Something else I want to point out, It's okay to get it on the sides, actually, it's better, because then you don't have to worry about any white edges showing. We'll paint the edges later anyways!

Step 3. Now add another drop or two of your colored paint to the white. You might have to add more white as well, and in this case, just add extra color.

Step 4. Paint another thick line with this mixture, slightly overlapping your first line. Remember, it doesn't have to be perfect!

You don't want the part that's overlapping to be a perfectly solid line, you want it to look like it's fading!

Step 5. Add a few more drops of your colored paint and mix (remember, you can always add more white as well).

Step 6. Paint a third line overlapping the second.

Step 7. Add more of your colored paint. (At this point, you should be adding more and more color and less and less white)

Step 8. Paint a fourth line.

Step 9. Add more colored paint.

Step 10. (I guess I don't ahve a picture here) Paint a fifth line

Step 11. Add more colored paint

Step 12. Paint your 6th and final line.

At this point, take 5 minutes or so to let your paint dry slightly.

This is the brush I used to paint my sides and my words. This is the biggest brush in the pack.

Step 13. After waiting 5 minutes, mix up a bit more of your darkest color and carefully paint the edges of the canvas.

At this point, your canvas should be dry, so you can start with your words!

If you're doing a glitter canvas, make sure to paint your non glitter words first so they have time to dry.

Step 14. Paint your words. I did this on both canvases at oce so that my glitter one had time to dry.

I free handed my words, but you could print different fonts out if you want.

Step 15. Once your painted words dry, grab your mod podge and clean your paint brush. Paint one letter at a time. I suggest painting a thin coat at first to use as a guide then put your mod podge on thick.

Step 16. Pour glitter over your Mod Podge. I pressed down over the letter with the top to make sure the glitter stuck. (Don't use your finger for this. I made that mistake...you know how glitter is)

Repeat steps 15 and 16 for the rest of the word and you end up with this:

At this point, leave the canvas sitting for a good 10 or 15 minutes. Basically, until you feel that the glue is dry enough.

Step 17. Dump your glitter into the trash can.

This is the finished product!

So there you go, two beautiful canvases!

A quick side note, I took my dog to get spayed on Tuesday and I think It's safe to say she hates me now. I think this picture sums up how she feels about this whole situation. Poor Mollie.

Cummins Cake

Hello Everyone and happy Friday!

So, a few weeks ago was my boyfriend's birthday and he wanted me to make him a C shaped cake for his favorite diesel truck, Cummins.

Well, I took a shot at it and I guess you can say I tried. I sort of failed, but I did come up with some helpful tips for you all!

What you need:
  • Cake mix (I used lemon cake and 4 boxes)
  •  A large baking pan (I used a sheet cake pan-Sorry, don't know the measurements!)
  • Some type of filling (optional, I used lemon curd)
  • Frosting (I used whipped and I used between 3 and 4 containers)
  • Food Coloring (optional)
  • A Platter
  • Detailing tips (optional)

Step 1. Bake your cake and let cool. I only had 1 pan so I baked one and flipped it out onto a cookie sheet to cool while I made the other one.

Step 2. I omitted this step, but I think it would be the best way to go. Put your cake either in the freezer or fridge for at least a few hours so it "sets"

Step 3. Cut out your C shape. You can draw a "stencil" on some paper and cut it out, but I free handed it.

Step 4. Place your first C on top of the other sheet cake to use as a stencil. I broke mine into pieces so that it was easier to move.

**Optional: Before crumb coating, fill the bottom layer. I totally forgot to do this step on the bottom. So the tutorial for how to do this is below**

Step 5. Place your frst C down and "crumb coat" it. This is basically a thin layer of frosting that is meant to seal in the crumbs. Mine didn't work all that well, but if you freeze the cake beforehand, it should work much better.

Step 6. Place your second C on top of the first.

Now, here's where your options come in. My boyfriend wanted the cake filled. As I mentioned above, I forgot to fill the bottom layer. Now if you've filled cupcakes before, this is similar, but a bit more difficult. To fill your cake, carefully cut out sections. Make sure they don't come too close to the edge or else your cake essentially starts to melt (like mine). Once you Make your cuts, carefully pull the pieces out. I basically cut mine in half so I could grab them more easily. Then, cut the excess cake off the bottom of those pieces. Fill the holes as shown below:

Then, place your top back on!

Step 7. Now, carefully crumb coat your top layer.

Step 8. After coating your top layer, add a layer of your colored frosting. ( for me, this is where things started falling apart. Literally.)

Step 9. Use a detailing tip or pouch to write on the cake. Tommy wanted the word "Cummins" along with some smoke stacks.

Hopefully it turns out a bit better for you all if you try it! Mine fell apart about 5 minutes after I took the picture, but it still tasted good!

Also, some exciting news! I am now an AVON representative! I just submitted my first order so I'm pretty excited about getting some new stuff to try out!

Brown Sugar Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts

Hello everyone! Happy Friday!

I got my wisdom teeth out this morning so I've been laying around on the couch all day and figured I should share this wonderful tutorial with you all!

My boyfriend asked me to make him bacon wrapped water chestnuts for his birthday and they couldn't have been more delicious!

What you need:

  • Bacon
  • Water chestnuts (I used 2 cans)
  • Tooth picks
  • A cookie sheet
  • Brown sugar
  • Oil for the pan

Step 1. Break your brown sugar up and pour it onto a plate or in a bowl.

Step 2. Cut each slice of bacon into thirds.

Step 3. Dip the bacon into the brown sugar and coat both sides.

Step 4. Place a water chestnut in the middle of the bacon.

Step 5. Wrap the bacon around the water chestnut and secure it with a toothpick.

Step 6. Place the finished wrapped water chestnut on an oiled cookie sheet.

Step 7. Bake in the oven at 375 until the bacon is browned. I believe it took mine 20 minutes or so.

Viola!

These are super easy and super irresistible. Let me know what you guys think and if you made any adjustments!

Fourth of July Nails

Hey everyone!

I hope you all have a chance to relax tomorrow! Here's a quick, easy, and super cute patriotic nail art tutorial!

What you need:
Silver glitter polish (I used silver glitter by nail art duo)
Red nail polish (I used opi red and Art Deco red)
Blue nail polish (I used Sally Hansen hard as nails peek-a-blue)
White nail polish (I used opi alpine snow)
     Top/base coat (I use Essie all-in-one)
     A dotting tool
     Something to clean up with

Step 1. Paint your thumb and ring finger red. I only needed 1 coat.

Step 2. Paint your pointer and pinky blue. I used 2 coats for this.

Step 3. Paint your middle finger white. I used 2 coats.

Step 4. Paint a diagonal line with your silver glitter on each of your nails except for the middle finger. I did this in multiple steps because I was waiting for my other nails to dry.

Step 5. Using the dotting tool, place dots on one half of the nail with the other two colors.

Step 6. Take your blue and paint half of your middle finger nail diagonally with it. I free handed it but you could easily use some striping tape.

Step 7. With your glitter polish, draw a line between the 2 colors.

Step 8. With the small end of your dotting tool, place white dots on the blue part of the nail.

Step 9. Take your red detailing polish and draw vertical lines on the white part.

And you're done!

Let me know what you guys think!

I hope you all have a wonderful fourth!
